our choices. In that respect, Elis is committed to be an ethical and responsible company, to limit environmental impacts and to
promote the highest standards of integrity. Elis intends to fully associate its business partners (which means hereinafter suppliers, manufacturers,
subcontractors, licensees and distributors, regardless of the product or service provided) with its ethical and responsible conduct particularly through this Charter for Responsible and Ethical Purchasing.

Elis group Policy Health & Safety

For the Elis Group, the Safety and Health of its employees and all people working on its sites is a top concern. The Group strives to ensure that everyone benefits from a safe and healthy working environment by preventing occupational accidents, injuries and illnesses.

Human development personnel

Career counseling and development goes through our PDR cycle. Each employee has an annual development meeting. Outcomes are centrally managed by P&O.

Management Trainee Guidelines

The guidelines are leading in the management traineeship program. It tells us what a traineeship entails, what trainees can and cannot expect and how to mentor the trainees.

Membership MVO Nederland (CSR the Netherlands)

CSR Netherlands is the Centre of Excellence for Dutch companies that are striving towards corporate social responsibility. More than 2000 companies are affiliated with this networking organization.

Modern Slavery Act

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any breach of human rights, including modern slavery and human trafficking. We expect our business partners to comply with this act as well.

Sustainable procurement policy

The steps Elis takes to evaluate new and existing suppliers in terms of CSR throughout the supply chain.

UN Global Compact membership

Elis became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact on 17 of August 2006. Participation in the Global Compact continues to provide us with a recognized and respected policy framework for our work on sustainability and corporate responsibility. Many of the markets that we operate in are continuing to demand contributors that are embracing the ideals outlined in the Global Compact’s ten principles.

Waste reduction Policy

In order to reduce waste as much as possible, Elis has formulated a waste reduction plan in 2012, in line with the EU guideline on the reduction of packaging materials 94/62 EG. This policy has been updated for the Netherlands in 2018.

Whistleblowing suppliers

At Berendsen, we recognise that effective and honest communication is essential in order to maintain our business values and to ensure that any instances of business malpractice are promptly detected and appropriately managed. Therefore, we have extended our whistleblowing system to our suppliers.

The purpose of this whistleblowing system is to encourage and provide a mechanism for anyone - whether employees, suppliers or customers of Berendsen - to report any instances of business misconduct, without risk to themselves or their business relationship with us.

Measures

Anti-Corruption and Bribery Training

The aim of the training is an increased awareness on the rules and laws of interacting with external parties. It is an e-learning that consists out of multiple questions and cases of real life examples. At the end of the training the participants were tested on their knowledge of recognizing corruption and bribary and how to avoid or deal with it.

In 2017 33% of the employees of Berendsen the Netherlands had to attend the anti-bribery online training. 72% of them passed.

Award program Blue collar "Club des Chevrons"

The ‘Club des Chevrons’ is Elis’s oldest HR programme. Created in 1987, its purpose is to acknowledge the work of the most deserving Production and Maintenance employees. Each year, +/- 450 of them (including partners) are rewarded with a trip organized by the Human Resources Department.
It also enables people to create new bonds with others from
different plants and countries, and to share their experience.

CSR Questionnaires Elis for group CSR report

A document that builds around the CSR Policy. It has been used as a tool to collect information for group reporting based on regulation as a listed company and as a way for the new Berensden/Elis group to know where we stand after the first year - check initiatives and benchmark.
What will be included:
- Efforts that have an impact on a big part of the group
Initiatives and/or successes that (can) inspire others internally and externally
- Examples of ways we ensure quality and corporate citizenship
- Product group specifics

Why do we have it?
As a tool that supports when sharing the CSR efforts with our employees, customers, shareholders, suppliers and other stakeholders

How is it different from the annual report?
Not a subject to rules and regulations
Group initiative and effort – free to use it

Circulair Textiles - Dutch Awearness

Upcycling of textile waste. Elis and Dutch Awearness formed a partnership in 2017 with the aim to reduce textile waste and develop circular workwear. This is now effective for all discarded Cleanroom garments.
In 2020 we will find a new supplier that processes our discarded Work Wear in a more sustainable way.

Dutch Awearness turns the garments together with recycled PET into granulate, which can be turned into various objects like benches, tables, lampposts etc. We have furniture made of our own garments on the terrace in Helmond. In Bolsward 25.400 kg of garments have already gotten a second life.

Customer Feedback Program including Net Promoter Score

Customers review our service based on a mainly web- or Phone (only Bolsward) survey. They give feedback on our services, products and whether they are likely to recommend us. This score is tracked in most of the Elis countries for benchmarking purposes.

With this information we can distract data that inform us about trends and reactions on changes in our product- and service delivery.
Non-conformities are directly handled as a complaint and solved by customer services. In 2018 and 2019 (until March) we received 2061 completed questionnaires with an average NPS score of -17,5 for all our locations in the Netherlands. There are different initiatives to increase this number amongst which a Close the Loop policy in which we instruct customer service employees on how to follow-up on the questionnaires.

Environmental Program & Long Term Energy efficiency Plan 2017-2020

As part of our enironmental system (ISO 14001) we developed and folllow up our Environmental Program 2017-2020.

Monitor opportunities, risks and compliance on environmental issues. During the past year the focus has been on: the implementation of our TomTom Webfleet system to encourage safe and environmental friendly driving; reducing the kilometers driven by combining product distribution; and, plan to reduce energy consumption at different plants.

Improving Water, Energy and Chemicals usage NL

In order to identify posibilities to reduce the usage of water, energy and chemicals, we have performed annual audits on all locations since 2014. Part of the audits is to check whether recommendations of the year before have been implemented.

Through these audits, our aim is to use less water, energy, and chemicals. Our water, gas and electricity consumption per kg laundry has been fairly stable over the past years. We are aiming to decrease this ratio by decreasing laundry temperatures, reducing kilometers through route optimization and using our machines and the heat more efficiently.

Informative platforms for a safe and healthy workplace

'nlgaatgezonderwerken.nl' and 'veiliggedragen.nl' and Circle-A are three online platfoms on which Elis has cooperated with experts to educate (non-)clients about creating a safe and healthy workplace.

The website "www.circle-a.nl/" is a cooperation between Elis and 3 consortia partners. Goal of Circle-A is to promote safe working, user friendly service and circularity.

The website "veilig gedragen"(worn safely) is a cooperation between Elis and five safety experts. On this platform visitors can do a safety scan to find out more about the governance regarding to safety measures and regulations as how to pick the right gear for the right working conditions. After the scan visitors can order toolboxes with additional information about safety garmets and samples.

"Nederland gaat gezonder werken" (Holland will start working healthier) is an initiative by Elis and TH&P to increase safe and healthy working by eg. washing your hands after every toilet visit.

Through these websites, Elis aims to contribute to more awareness on safe and healthy working conditions.

An example: Several toolboxes have been ordered as a result of the information on 'veiliggedragen.nl'. The toolboxes contain information on the type of fabric and usage suitable for the working conditions.

1831 checks have been done according to the website (15/1/2018)
http://www.nlgaatgezonderwerken.nl/

Kilometer Reduction by combining Ede and Zaandam facility routes

Transportation routes of Ede and Zaandam are combined, avoiding double deliveries and kilometers.

We went from 12000 to 8000 delivery addresses due to removing all double stops of mats and washroom - leading to an estimated reduction of 33% of stops and unnecessary kilometers. Additionally we are combining routes in the northern part of the Netherlands with a similar goal in mind.

Light Guide

The Elis LightGuide seduces toilet visitors (without coercion) to hand washing, drying and disinfecting.

Tests have shown that the introduction of the Elis LightGuide can have a positive effect on hand hygiene. The system measures the use of the products while at the same time triggers the users to wash their hands. 269 light guide units are active in the Netherlands.

Physiotherapy for employees at our sites in Helmond, Uden and Hoogeveen

At our sites in Helmond, Uden and Hoogeveen we offer physiotherapy/massages during working hours for our employees with physical and muscle complaints.

We also offer workshops in Uden and Helmond for prevention of physical complaints for all employees.

Creating more vital employees and helping them to resolve physical complaints.

Plan for the Young Talent Elis Group

As of the summer of 2017 Berendsen the Netherlands started with the Young Talent Berendsen Group. Each member of the Dutch board had the possibility to put forward an employee that shows great potential, but does not hold a management position. Through monthly meetings we aim to develop those employees.

From september 2017 till june 2018 the first Young Talent Berendsen group organized monthly meetings. Consisting out of 12 participants supported by Human Resources.

Preventing water pollution

We reduced water pollution in 2018 by improving our water filtration system by installing a sand trap at our plant in Ede (mats laundry) that will remove sand and other pollution more effectively prior to discarding water to the sewer or reusing it in the washing process.

Apeldoorn re-uses almost all its process water by using a water treatment system.

We reduced water pollution in 2018 by installing an sand trap that will remove sand and other pollution prior to discarding water to the sewer in a natural way reducing our energy consumption (using gravity instead of pumps). The sand trap also splits the water from the heavier particles (sand, metals etc. all pollution of the mats). The sediment is collected by a recycling company and the water is reused in our washing cycle. An example, during one session of about 5 hours a total of 9,46 tonnes of sediment has been removed.

Reusable textile laundry bag

Berendsen uses texile laundry bags to pack and transport all garments to the customer. The same bags are used to transport dirty garments from the customer back to Berendsen where they are washed and re-used.

Avoid use of disposable plastic laundry bags.

Source 66% of garments from Elis Svarmil Estland

Elis NL supplies 66% of the purchased garments from sister organization Elis Svarmil Estland.

They are a reliable and CSR minded garment supplier. Elis Svarmil is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified.

Around 66% of the garments sold by Elis Nederland are manufactured in our own factories under adequate labour and environmental circumstances.

Sustainable partnership - Consortium Circle-A

Elis the Netherlands is part of Circle-A, a collaboration between Elis, Sioen, Lasaulec and Frankenhuis representing a circular supply chain partnership, in which Elis the Netherlands is the consortium leader and jointly responsible for developing sustainable workwear and the circular process to increase the life span.

The first success of Circle-A is a 15-year contract with a multi-million yearly value with the Dutch energy network company, Alliander.

Sustainable partnership - Elis and ABN AMRO

CSR partnership with examples sustainable products and services for Washroom. ABN AMRO has given Elis Washroom a good push in the right direction in making our washroom offering more sustainable.

Promoting and developing sustainable products and services. Environmentally responsible soap (natural ingredients) in the dispensers in some of ABN their major offices. The soap is mixed with water on location avoiding unnecessary transportation of water. Coreless toilet paper avoiding paper waste and cradle 2 cradle dispensers and paper and their locations.

Workers Council

Elis established a Workers Council nationally and internationally. They are involved in: human resources; education and development; health, safety and labour practices; PDR and compensation; and, employee benefit policy's (eg. lease cars).

For years Elis the Netherlands has had a workers council representing our diverse group of employees in board decisions.

Improvement Plans

Circulair Economy

There are multiple ambitions to be realized in 2019.
1. The first step in recycling "food" garments. The white garments are to be used in the automotive industry.
2. We are reviewing our total textile recycling opportunities together with supply chain partners.
